Bronze Etruscan Mirror from Arezzo.
Zeus is seated on a rock. He is represented almost facing, to
the same scale as the surrounding standing figures. The right
arm is hanging down, the hand grasping a thunderbolt. The left
arm is extended obliquely upward, the hand holding a staff.
The god has a close-cropped beard and wears his long hair
loose. His dress consists of a himation, which covers the left
upper arm. His Etruscan name is inscribed: TINA.
Athena is represented emerging from the head of Zeus, head and
legs in profile to the right, the body almost facing. Her
dress consists of a peplos. She wears a helmet, carries a
shield, seen from the back, on the left arm and holds a
spear in the right hand.
There are three other deities in the picture. On the right
standing goddess, the arms extended obliquely upward with
palms turned towards each other and extended fingers, and
Hephaistos, characterised as such by the axe. Their Etruscan
names are inscribe: THANR and SETHLANS. On the left side
stands a goddess, holding the chest of Zeus. Her name is
inscribed: THALNA.
As setting for the figures there are some rocks, some plants,
a bird and, in the background of the picture, the clouds.
